Paris – Defending bronze medalist Alexander Choupenitch from Tokyo will enter the Olympic Games in the second round of the foil competition against Poland’s Michal Siess. This is the winner of last year’s European Games in Krakow. It was decided by lot in Paris. He attributed star opponents to the Czech cord players.
Fletcher Choupenitch is the seventh seed in the tournament and will be the paper favorite against the tournament’s twenty-sixth seed Siessa. Last year he beat him at the tournament in Zagreb. At the Olympic Games, they will compete for a place in the round of 16 on Monday, July 29.
In the first round of the eight-member competition, the Czech corduroy team will face the second seeded Italians. Martin Rubeš will also face his Italian opponent in the second round of the individual tournament, where he will face the reigning vice-champion of the world, Davide de Veroli. Veteran Jiří Beran also has a free draw in the first round, and then he will face Frenchman Romain Cannone, the Olympic champion from Tokyo and the 2022 world champion, at the Grand Palais.
Cord fencer Jakub Jurka will be the only Czech fencer to fight in the first round, his opponent will be Egyptian Mahmúd Muhsin. The winner of this duel awaits the Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo, the Hungarian Gergely Siklósi.
