DEMAND for all devices that can cool the space has drastically increased during the last days. Due to the hellish heat, there is a real craze for classic fans, so retailers are unable to replenish their stocks in stores. In Belgrade, consumers have to visit multiple outlets to find this life-saving device, whose sales have increased fivefold during the heat wave.
The demand for air conditioners has also doubled, of which there is no shortage in stores, but that is why there are problems due to overloaded services. Thus, citizens have to sweat for up to two weeks waiting for their installation. Residents of the capital who have decided to clean and fix the air conditioner now will have their turn in mid-September, because at some service providers the wait can be as long as two months for this service.
“Novosti” reader Dejan R. complained to us that yesterday morning he visited the shops in his neighborhood on Zvezdara, but that he could not find a fan anywhere.
– I wanted to buy a floor fan, the one that is like a pillar with slits, but there were no fans of any kind in my shop – says our interlocutor. – We have air conditioning in the living room, but I need a fan for the study. They told me that they sell them quickly, and that they have not been able to replenish the stock. I was really surprised, I thought that there were those in every store of technical goods.
As we learn, the most popular are the cheaper classic floor fans with a column and a large head, whose prices generally range from 2,500 to 3,000 dinars, and some citizens buy more than one. When it comes to air conditioners, the most sold inverter is around 50,000 dinars. Predrag Manojlović from a well-known chain of technical goods points out that this increase in demand is normal, because hot days, and especially nights, directly affect the consumer’s decision to buy these devices. He points out that their sales are seasonal.
– The sale of fans has increased five times compared to the period before these heat waves, while the demand for air conditioners has doubled – says Manojlović. – Air conditioning services are now overloaded. Consumers in Serbia wait from seven to 14 days for installation, and it all depends on the city and the service provider.
Regarding the supply of ventilators to the shops, he says that there is no shortage of goods, but that it can happen that everything delivered to the sales premises is sold quickly, so that, for example, during a certain period of the day, they are not available in some actions.
FANS FOR MEN TOO
IT HAS BECOME common to see citizens on the street, in buses and in the gardens of cafes trying to cool down with the help of battery-powered pocket mini fans and fans. The heat these days forces consumers to stop by the first store and buy some of these handmade products. This is how we witnessed when three men entered a Chinese department store in Belgrade, bought fans and left waving them. Although this was unusual for some, this cooler is not a product used exclusively by women. As a reminder, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld made the fan his trademark in the 1980s, like his oversized sunglasses. By the way, pocket fans can be bought for 500 dinars, and their price goes up to 2,000 dinars. Fans generally cost 300 dinars, but some of better quality are sold for 1,000.
There is a large price range for all cooling devices. As far as fans are concerned, there is a great variety, so ordinary tables usually cost from 2,000 to 3,000 dinars. But those with an LED display, 12 speeds and a digital controller cost up to 15,000 dinars. The cheapest traditional floor fans with a column and a large head are sold from 2,500 to 4,500 dinars, and slightly better ones from 6,000 to 7,000 dinars. Those who want to provide better cooling should spend from 13,000 to 19,000 dinars for these devices with a water sprayer.
Standard climates can be found for around 30,000. Consumers are aware of the advantages of inverter air conditioners, which, in addition to saving energy, heat in winter and cool in summer. The price of the cheaper ones generally ranges from 38,000 to 60,000 dinars, and depending on the quality and performance, it goes up to 250,000 dinars.
WATER AND JUICES GO LIKE ALVA
RACKS and refrigerators with drinks and ice creams are emptying at the speed of light, so sellers do not have time to fill them. As we learned in a well-known retail chain, sales of juices and water increased by about 12 percent during this heat wave.
– When you take into account that there is normally a high demand for these products, a jump of 12 percent is drastic – our interlocutors explain.
