Democrats plan to start voting on Harris’ nomination on August 1, Trump calls her ‘incompetent’: US campaign day

The Democratic Party approved a plan on Wednesday to begin voting to formally nominate Kamala Harris as its presidential candidate on August 1, ahead of the party’s convention, which runs from August 19 to 22 in Chicago. The goal is to nominate candidates for president and vice president by August 7.

At a rally that brought together more than 6,000 black women, Harris called on them to help revitalize the Democratic presidential campaign, after Joe Biden dropped out – who will address the country to explain his decision at 1 a.m. on Thursday, mainland Portugal time. “I thank you. And now, in this moment, our nation needs your leadership once again,” said the vice president at the event in Indianapolisorganized by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, a sorority founded at Howard University, which he attended.

Harris’s campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, pointed to support among women, nonwhites and younger voters as key to her electoral success. “Wherever Vice President Harris goes, grassroots enthusiasm follows,” she wrote in a memo, while acknowledging that the election would be very close.

In North Carolina, at his first campaign rally since Biden dropped out of the race, Republican candidate Donald Trump said the president “dropped out because he was losing” in the polls. He then insulted Harris, calling her a “liar” and “the most incompetent vice president.” “We’re going to make America great again,” he promised.

The day was also marked by Trump’s complaint to the Federal Election Commission, arguing that Harris cannot raise funds raised by Biden’s reelection campaign. The document presented by the campaign’s general counsel, David Warrington, points out that this is a “blatant money grab”.

More news of the day:

⇒ The FBI director informed lawmakers that he found on the computer of the person responsible for the assassination attempt on Trump a search for the distance from the shooter who killed John F. Kennedy. The search on the Google search engine is a reference to Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who killed the former president in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The search, apparently made by Thomas Matthew Crooks, occurred on July 6, a week before the assassination attempt on the Republican candidate in Pennsylvania.

⇒ Hillary Clinton warned that Kamala Harris will face “sexism and double standards” on the campaign trail. “Harris’s record and character will be distorted and disparaged by an avalanche of misinformation and the kind of nasty biases we’re already hearing from MAGA (‘Make America Great Again’) spokespeople,” the former White House candidate wrote in an op-ed, published in “The New York Times”.
