On September 10, 2024, the Disciplinary and Etiquette Committee held its 5th meeting of the 2024/25 season, chaired by Mr. Watcharin Phanurat. The meeting considered complaints about unusual incidents in a Thai League 1 football match between Rayong FC and Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC on August 31, 2024.
The incident occurred in the 72nd minute when there was a commotion in the middle of the field. Player number 36 Yasir Isrami from Rayong FC ran to confront player number 23 Dennis Murillo from Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC. His teammates from Rayong FC helped to stop him. The match director went down to ask the security supervisor and Rayong FC staff about the incident. They said that player number 23 Dennis Murillo from Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC had verbally abused player number 36 Yasir Isrami from Rayong FC, which made him angry and determined to confront player number 23 Dennis Murillo from Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC. He informed Mr. CARLOS PARREIR, head coach of Rayong FC. This incident caused the match to be stopped for about 5 minutes. The referee was able to control the situation and called the players to continue the match until the end.
The Disciplinary Committee invited the relevant persons from both clubs to clarify the facts and reviewed the video clip of the incident. It was found that in the 72nd minute, there was a scuffle on the field between player number 36 Yasir Isrami from Rayong FC and player number 23 Dennis Murillo from Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC. From the clarification of the facts, Dennis Murillo explained to the committee that he already knew that Yasir Isrami was of Palestinian nationality and admitted that he used the word “TERRORIST” to respond to Yasir Isrami, claiming that he did not intend to convey a racist meaning. Player number 36 Yasir Isrami from Rayong FC spoke in Spanish to respond to the Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC player, which was a vulgar word because he was angry and dissatisfied with being scolded by Dennis Murillo. Both parties admitted that they had responded back and forth.
The Disciplinary Committee concluded that both players used inappropriate language to respond to each other, including insulting and scorning each other, according to the context of the words with different intensity. This falls under the offense according to the regulations on punishment, Chapter 3, Category 2, Section 1.9, which carries a penalty of suspension from 1 to 3 matches and a fine of 10,000 to 60,000 baht.
The Disciplinary Committee considered the punishment and manners of Dennis Murillo of Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC with the highest penalty of being suspended for 3 matches and fined 60,000 baht. However, since he admitted his guilt and confessed that he had said those words, it was deemed appropriate to reduce the fine to 50,000 baht. Mr. YASHIR AP ISLAME of Rayong FC was also punished with a 1-match suspension and a 30,000 baht fine.
