Experience shows that rigid anchorage does not damage the remaining teeth more, or even less, than flexible anchorage.
An elastically anchored, i.e. constantly moving, sliding prosthesis damages the mucosa-bone base more than a rigidly anchored, fixed, non-moving, non-sliding prosthesis. Among the removable restorations, the best, rigid anchorage can be achieved with metal plate prostheses.
An additional advantage of dentures combined with a metal plate is that due to its high strength, it can be made thinner, and even after significant reduction, there is no need to fear that it will break. Reduction should be performed primarily in the areas where the foreign body bothers the patient the most and should be extended to those oral structures where support causes the least discomfort.
It is possible that the disc does not interfere with tongue movements, taste and speech.
Another advantage is that
- good heat conductor,
- easy to clean,
- food pulp sticks to it less, so bacteria and fungi do not settle on its surface.
In the past, his weight was a disadvantage
The weight of metal plates cast using modern techniques and made of the most modern metals is about the same, but depending on the extension, it can even be lighter than acrylic dentures. The dentures combined with the metal plate can be made of chrome-cobalt alloy, nickel-free metal or special gold alloy, providing equally high stability to the removable denture and very pleasant and safe use for the patient.
