Deputies are awaiting the opening round of the debate on next year’s budget today

Prague – MPs are awaiting the opening round of the debate on the draft state budget for next year today. They will approve its basic parameters, i.e. income, expenditure and deficit. According to the government proposal, the deficit for next year should amount to 241 billion crowns, which is 41 billion less than this year’s adjusted budget. The budget cannot be rejected, it can only be returned to the government for revision. The ANO opposition movement wants to return it to the government, and the Pirates, who were in power until recently, want to make the same proposal.

The Parliament initially approved this year’s budget with a deficit of 252 billion crowns. In October, however, due to damage from the September floods, it increased it by 30 billion crowns.

Planned revenues for next year increase by 146 billion crowns compared to this year’s budget, and expenses increase by 105 billion crowns compared to the adjusted budget. Incomes represent 2.086 trillion crowns and expenses 2.327 trillion crowns. The majority of the deficit will be covered by an increase in the state debt by 248 billion crowns. The government identified the consolidation of public budgets, the strengthening of investments or the elimination of the consequences of recent floods as the main priority of the budget.
