SkyShowtime has confirmed that the new original drama series Dexter: Original Sin – the long-awaited prequel to the Emmy-nominated series Dexter® arrives on this platform.
The action takes place 15 years before Dexter was first introduced to us in the hit SHOWTIME® series Dexter. This new 10-episode thriller follows an American serial killer… when he was still a rookie.
The cast of the series was also announced Dexter: Original Sin (previous title Dexter: Origins). Patrik Gibson (Shadow and Bone) plays the title role of Dexter Morgan; winner of the Golden Globe Award, Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) plays Harry Morgan, Dexter’s stepfather and blood crime detective; and Molly Brown (Senior Year) plays Dexter’s younger sister, Debra Morgan. Patrick Dempsey is also set to join the cast as a series regular and will play Aaron Spencer, a Miami Metro homicide captain who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan (Slater). Sarah Michelle Gellar joins the cast in a special guest role as Tanya Martin, head of CSI at the Miami Police Department and Dexter Morgan’s new boss. Clyde Phillips (DexterEmmy Award-nominated Nurse Jackie), returns as writer and executive producer.
Plot of the series Dexter: Original Sin takes place in Miami in 1991 and follows Dexter’s (Gibson) transformation from college student to vengeful serial killer. When he realizes that his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn how to channel his inner dark urges. Under the guidance of his father Harry (Slater), he adopts a code that helps him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society while staying under the radar of the police. It’s a particularly tough challenge for young Dexter as he begins an internship at the Miami Police Department’s forensics department.
Slater won a Golden Globe Award and several critics’ choice awards, as well as numerous nominations for his role in the series Mr. Robot. For the role in the series Dr. Death was nominated for the critics’ choice award, and is also noted for the series Dirty John, the movie Nymphomaniac, as well as for the now cult classics True Romance and Heathers. Slater currently stars in Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted, and The Spiderwick Chronicles. He will next star in Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice.
Gibson was recently seen in the television series Shadow and Bone. He previously won awards for The OA, Good Girl Jane, and Property of the State. For this last achievement, he received the Irish Film and Television Award ® as a rising star for 2017.
Braun was previously seen in the series Evil, Billions and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as well as in films such as Senior Year and The Good House. He is soon to appear in the independent film Mooch.
James Martinez (Love Victor), Kristina Milian (Falling Inn Love), Alex Simicu (The Blacklist) and Rino Wilson (Mike & Molly) also join the regular cast as members of the Miami police station. Martinez plays Angel Batista, a young up-and-coming detective who is guided by his heart; Milian plays Maria LaGuerta, Miami’s first homicide detective; Šimica is played by Vince Masuka, a forensic analyst who is happy to share his expertise while also enjoying giving orders to his new intern, Dexter Morgan; and Wilson plays Bobby Watt, Harry’s longtime partner and confidante.
