DFB Cup: The round of 16 draw in the LIVE blog

The second round of the DFB Cup is a thing of the past. 16 teams from the Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga and 3rd League remain in the race for the title. The draw for the round of 16 will take place on Sunday in the Dortmund Football Museum. Who will FC Bayern, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Co. meet?

sport.de accompanies the draw on Sunday here from 7:00 p.m. in the LIVE blog.

+++ Jahn Regensburg – VfB Stuttgart +++

Regensburg also gets home advantage. The runner-up comes from Stuttgart.

+++ Karlsruher SC – FC Augsburg +++

KSC will play at home against FC Augsburg in the round of 16.

+++ RB Leipzig – Eintracht Frankfurt +++

The next co-favorite, RB Leipzig, gets a home game. Eintracht Frankfurt is coming. When the final is held again in 2023, the SGE will probably want to settle a score.

+++ Werder Bremen – SV Darmstadt 98 +++

Werder Bremen will face Darmstadt in the next round. The North Germans’ cup run could go a little further. Florian Kohfeldt is now returning to his old place of work.

+++ FC Bayern – Bayer Leverkusen +++

FC Bayern is allowed to play in its own arena. It will be a blast against Leverkusen. A great pairing! “This is the game of games in this round. I would have preferred it to be a little later,” says Völler about this draw.

+++ Arminia Bielefeld – SC Freiburg – +++

SC Freiburg is drawn first. Arminia Bielefeld is in the second ball. This means that home law changes, as the third division team receives preference.

+++ It’s stirring… +++

It’s starting. André Schnura reaches into the drum and draws the first ticket.

+++ Rudi Völler brings the trophy with him +++

Before the draw, Rudi Völler comes into the studio with the DFB Cup. The DFB sports director will attend the ceremony and also hopes for special moments in the next round. “The wishes are always the same in a draw. You can’t please everyone. Everyone would like to play at home. But everyone doesn’t go,” he says.

+++ The tension increases +++

In just a few minutes it will be clear which games football fans can look forward to in the first week of December. Everything is already set up in the German Football Museum, saxophonist André Schnura really heats up the atmosphere with the song “Major Tom” at the beginning.

+++ How does the draw work? +++

With Arminia Bielefeld there is only one club left in the competition that, as a third division team, is definitely allowed to play a home game.

Otherwise, the team drawn first always has home advantage. All remaining teams can meet. This means that real cracker games like FC Bayern against Bayer Leverkusen or Eintracht Frankfurt against VfB Stuttgart are also conceivable.

DFB sports director Rudi Völler will be the draw manager at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Drawing the balls is lottery fairy André Schnura, who became an internet star as a saxophonist at the home European Championships last summer.

+++ When will the round of 16 take place?

The games in the round of 16 in the DFB Cup are scheduled for December 3rd and 4th. Four games will be played on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
