Police on their side Facebook profile warns against fraudulent SMS messages that appear to be official from the Police of the Slovak Republic. Don’t pay anything, it’s a scam!
The first warning sign is the sending of an SMS message informing you of a fictitious unpaid fine for a fictitious offence. The police do not inform about the imposed fine in this way, they usually send a letter to their own hands. The second signal that should resonate in the head of every recipient of this SMS is the request to pay by credit card, which appears after clicking on the link in the text.
The link in the SMS message redirects you to a fake website, which pretends to be the website of the Ministry of the Interior, where the fake file number, the reason for the fine, the date of the alleged offense and the amount of the fine to be paid via a link to the online payment gateway are listed. If you were to enter your payment card details, there is a high probability that fraudsters would whitewash your account.
