Celebrating the transformative impact of technology and demonstrating Portugal’s innovative capacity is, in words by Margarida Balseiro Lopes, the main mission of the Portugal Digital Awards which, like other initiatives, reflects the work of public and private companies. However, assumes the Minister of Youth and Modernization of Portugal, who participated in the opening session of the awards ceremony, “digital transformation is only successful when placed at the service of people”.
The governor believes that “we must view technology through the impact of digital on people’s lives and the simplification of their daily lives”, a mission that, however, requires “work and collaboration between public, private sectors, academia, and associations “.
Also taking to the stage were Carmo Palma, managing director of Axians, and Gabriel Coimbra, group vice president & country manager of IDC Portugal, who welcomed an audience full of businesspeople, representatives of the 47 finalists, selected from among the 340 applications for the 9th edition of the Portugal Digital Awards. “Choosing the finalists has been more difficult from edition to edition as the quality of the projects has been improving”, said the Axians manager.
“There were more than 2 thousand registrations that we have already received in nine editions”, added Gabriel Coimbra. THE responsible from IDC highlights also the verified evolution, which illustrates the three waves of transformation digital identified by the consultant – experimentation (2015/2018), alignment of digital investment with the business (2019/2023), real transformation of the business based on its DNA (2024).
Of the applications that participated in the 9th edition of this initiative there were ten sectors were represented, with the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) being present in most of the projects. Impact on business and use of technologies Disruptive variables were the determining variables in the selection of winners.
Among the 18 winners of the night, the main prizes awarded to Maria José Campos, Administrator of Millennium BCP, who won the Best Digital Leader trophy, and to the Power Electronic Box project, from Horse Aveiro, which took home the Best Digital Transformation Project.
