Dimensity 9400: Mediatek introduces flagship CPU for high-end smartphones

For Galaxy S25?

With the Dimensity 9400, Mediatek is introducing a new CPU that will be used in particular in high-end smartphones. There are interesting improvements, especially for mobile gaming.

Mediatek has with the Dimensity 9400 the flagship of the next generation of mobile processors was introduced. The N3E production stage, which was previously only found in the Apple Bionic A18, is used for the first time. According to the press release, the focus is once again on the “Big Core” design; This essentially eliminates the need for energy-saving efficiency cores.

Instead, the ARC Cortex-X925 is used as the main core, which clocks at up to 3.62 GHz and is said to be up to 35 percent better than its predecessor in terms of single-core thread performance. There are also three Cortex-X4s with a clock speed of up to 3.3 GHz and four Cortex-A720s with a clock speed of up to 2.4 GHz. In terms of multi-core performance, the Dimensity 9400 should record an increase of around 28 percent, but still be 40 percent more efficient overall.

The GPU unit used is the solution from ARM called Immortalis-G925, which works with 12 cores. This should enable up to 41 percent better gaming performance and up to 44 percent better ray tracing performance compared to its predecessor; Temporal upscaling based on AMD FSR 2 is also being launched with “HyperEngine Super Resolution”.

What’s new is official support for Bluetooth 5.4 (LE) and Wi-Fi 7, which is provided via a separate chip. A new image processor also enables 14 percent more power-efficient recording of 4K videos at 60 frames per second. The first smartphones with the Mediatek Dimensity 9400 are expected to come onto the market before the end of the year. For the beginning of 2025, the Samsung Galaxy S25 is also expected to use the Mediatek processor – although it is still unclear whether this would also be used in all regions.
