Dimensity 9500, the future flagship chip from MediaTek, would reach the frequency of 4 GHz

Gone are the days when mobile enthusiasts saw MediaTek’s processors as cheap and underpowered alternatives to what the competition had to offer from Qualcomm, with its Snapdragon series, or Samsung, with its Exynos family of chips. The Taiwanese manufacturer has impressed in recent years with its recent processors, especially the high-end chips dedicated to flagship devices, such as the Dimensity 9300 or the more recent Dimensity 9400, based on an architecture with large CPU cores, arranged in the 1+ configuration 3+4.

For example, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 used a Cortex-X925 main core, which operated at a frequency of 3.62GHz. It was complemented by three powerful Cortex-X4 cores, operating at a frequency of 3.3GHz, and, to ensure optimal energy efficiency, four Cortex-A720 cores, clocked at a maximum frequency of 2.4GHz.

Well, using the Chinese social network Weibo, insider Digital Chat Station has revealed the changes that MediaTek is planning to make on its upcoming flagship chip, the Dimensity 9500. According to this report, MediaTek will opt for a 2+6 configuration CPU cores for its future processor, with 2 main Cortex-X930 “Travis” cores (prime cores) and no less than 6 Cortex-A730 performance cores “Jealous”. The same type of configuration with 2+6 cores is also used by Qualcomm in its recent Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

The Dimensity 9500 could hit the 4 GHz mark

Moreover, the two main cores (prime cores) on the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 could reach top frequencies of 4 GHz, the chip to be built in the N3P (3 nm) technology of TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) . In addition to the 3nm manufacturing process, which should improve the chip’s energy efficiency, the Dimensity 9500 will also use ARM’s SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) technology to provide increased multi-threaded performance .

Given that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor was officially announced in October 2024, we’ll likely have to wait a few more months until the Taiwanese manufacturer unveils its new Dimensity 9500.
