The TV tradition continues this year: the sketch “Dinner for One” will be shown several times on German television on New Year’s Eve.
The sketch “Dinner for One” has been a fixture on German television on New Year’s Eve since 1972. The story about Miss Sophie and her drunken butler James enjoys cult status today and has been adapted repeatedly. In recent years, Joko and Klaas, among others, have produced a meta-adaptation of the sketch at ProSieben. In “New Year’s Eve for oneThe two of them try to recreate the sketch, which becomes a constant challenge due to the increasing alcohol level.
A prequel to “Dinner for One” will also be released on Amazon Prime Video in 2025. The background to the sketch will be told in a six-part series, in which Miss Sophie is looking for a husband while a murder occurs among her amorous suitors. Alicia von Rittberg will play Miss Sophie, while Kostja Ullmann will play the butler James. The other cast will include Frederick Lau and Moritz Bleibtreu, among others.
