How reports NBC, the exact number of voters is not disclosed, but 99% of participants voted to hold a strike. It could be the first at Disneyland in the last 40 years.
Unions have been negotiating with Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, since April 24. The dispute involves more than 675 cleaners, ride operators, bakers and vendors.
On June 10, employees announced they had filed a lawsuit against the company alleging unfair labor practices. The case is being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board.
Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Jessica Good said the strike authorization was “not unusual” in the bargaining process and noted that park management and union meetings are still scheduled for July 22 and 23.
Unions accuse the park’s management of unlawful disciplinary measures against employees, intimidation and surveillance of members of the organization wearing special badges with a white Mickey Mouse glove raised into a fist.
“We know that these actions are simply an attempt to prevent us from exercising our rights and imposing an agreement that will uphold the status quo at Disney,” the negotiating committee said.
