Disruptions at SNCF: how do I know if my train is being maintained or cancelled?

The simultaneous attack on 3 LGV lines on July 26 will seriously disrupt train traffic until July 29. Some journeys may be canceled. Here’s how to find out if your train is still running.

Are you planning to take the train to travel in France during this big summer weekend of cross-country travel? Be careful, the attack on high-speed lines may spoil your plans. Traffic is expected to be severely disrupted from Friday, July 26, until Monday, July 29. Some SNCF trains will run and others will not, delays are to be expected on all journeys.

But how do you know if your train is affected, and how do you get a refund if the train is cancelled? Here’s everything you need to know.

The SNCF keeps travelers informed on its website. If you provided your contact details when booking your ticket, you will receive an SMS or email indicating the cancellation of the train.

It is also possible to use the SNCF Connect application to monitor whether the journey is maintained. The information can be consulted in your tickets or from the customer account.

The SNCF Connect app can then be used to exchange the ticket free of charge, or cancel the reservation and obtain a full refund. If you purchased your ticket on another platform such as Trainline or Ouigo, this is where you will need to log in to cancel or postpone.

It is also possible to check your journey information on this page of the SNCF website. Simply enter your train number, departure date and click on “Search”. If the train is deleted, or only some of its stops, you will see this indicated, as in the following screenshot.

How do I get my refund?

The SNCF attack is an exceptional circumstance. The refund conditions that sometimes apply during strikes do not apply to tickets for the weekend of July 26 to 29. However, you can exchange or refund the affected ticket free of charge.

If you want to get a full refund on your TGV or Intercités ticket, you absolutely must cancel your ticket. If your train is canceled, the ticket is not automatically canceled. For travelers who have opted for a Ouigo, the cancellation of the trip must be done on the Ouigo website and the refund will be made in vouchers.

If you have difficulty cancelling tickets, particularly Eurostar, you can use the SNCF chatbot.

And if you are not affected by this incident, other tips could still be useful to you: booking a ticket on a full train, getting a refund for a OuiGo train ticket or obtaining a refund in the event of a train delay.
