DJI unveils DJI Mic Mini wireless microphone system that improves battery life while miniaturizing all hardware announced. The new microphones are less than half the weight of the more expensive DJI Mic 2 transmitters. On the other hand, the new system sacrifices useful features like built-in backup recording and the option to connect an even smaller lavalier microphone to improve portability. Here are all the details about DJI Mic Mini features and price.
DJI Mic Mini Features
While the DJI Mic Mini seems like an improvement over the DJI Mic 2 system in many ways, it’s not a replacement. Mic Mini transmitters are not capable of recording backup audio on their own. For this reason, you’ll need to rely on your recording software, such as the DJI Mimo app, which can capture a second security track at a lower volume to avoid clipping and distortion.
Additionally, it is not possible to connect your lapel microphones to the transmitters and hide them. This means the DJI logo will always appear prominently in your videos. The wireless receiver also lacks a screen to monitor audio levels.
Although the microphone transmitters in the Mic 2 system already weigh 28 grams each, the Mic Minis weigh only 10 grams and are physically smaller. Therefore, it is more discreet when attached to clothing or when attached using magnets or lanyards.
The battery life of Mic Mini is also quite successful. DJI says the microphone transmitter will run for up to 11.5 hours on a full charge, while the wireless receiver can run for up to 10.5 hours. When paired with the charging case, which provides an additional 3.6 full charges, the Mic Mini system can be used for up to 48 hours without needing access to power.
The microphone transmitters can connect directly to smartphones and mobile devices or DJI devices including Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4 and Osmo Pocket 3 via Bluetooth. In addition, two of them can be connected to the Mic Mini wireless receiver at the same time, increasing the transmission range up to 400 meters. The receiver connects to other devices via USB-C, Lightning, or 3.5mm audio cable and has a dial with five gain settings for adjusting the level of incoming audio.
DJI Mic Mini Price and Release Date
DJI Mic Mini sales have started abroad. The package, consisting of two microphone transmitters, a wireless receiver, a charging box and other accessories, carries a price tag of $ 169. The cheaper $89 package does not include a charging box and only includes a single microphone transmitter and wireless receiver, as well as accessories such as charging cables and docks. The microphone transmitters alone are $59, while the charging box is $49.
