DJI Mic were one of the successes of the drone manufacturer, which took advantage of its experience in transmitting wireless signals to create wireless microphones with a reliable connection. Furthermore, one of the strong points of the microphones was also to carry on board a memory for backing up the recorded sounds on each unit, to avoid any problems even in the case of recordings in places with strong interference.
For some, however, the dimensions of the DJI Mic microphone units are a bit excessive and using them directly without a lavalier leads to having a small box fixed on the chest, which sometimes creates annoying creases in clothes and shirts and is not easy to hide.
DJI Mic Mini
To avoid the problem, DJI now presents DJI Mic Miniwhich miniaturizes transmitters by reducing them to two small squares of 10 grams eachable to be fixed to lapels and collars without weighing on them.
Despite their compact dimensions, the new DJI Mic Mini bring technology on board noise cancellingsettable on two levels. The former is useful for fairly quiet interiors and cancels out background noises such as fan hums and the like. The second, however, is designed for noisier situations, even in external shots and cuts background noise by emphasizing the voice.
There is also a function of automatic volume limitation to avoid clipping and distortion, but videographers also have quick gain control via the receiver unit’s dial. Additionally, the DJI Mimo app offers the option of a safety track, which records at a volume 6 dB lower than the main track. The receiver also underwent a weight loss treatment, giving up the screen.
Despite their compact size, the microphones promise 48 hours of use and from the app you can set an automatic shutdown timer when not in use, to preserve the battery even when you forget to turn off all the units.
DJI Mic Mini can cGood luck directly with Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4 and Osmo Pocket 3 without the use of a receiver, but direct connection to the smartphone is also possible. Furthermore, via the DJI Fly app it is possible to connect the DJI Mic Mini to the DJI Neo drone via Bluetooth.
The only flaw, in our opinion, are the dimensions of the case. It is true that it comfortably houses all the components, allowing you to neatly store two transmitters, a receiver, smartphone adapters and windshields and making DJI Mic Mini easy to transport, store and recharge, but the dimensions – compared to the super small ones of the components – they are practically those of the case of the older DJI Mic brothers, nullifying the space saving in the backpack.
