Do you know everything about handbags?

We would look for a woman who does not own one for a very long time, if not in vain. And most of us have several. We are talking about handbags, an absolutely iconic piece of women’s wardrobes. This supplement he has accompanied us since time immemorial, but his role has changed somewhat. While at the beginning its practical function prevailed, with the passage of time the decorative one began to prevail. How have handbags looked over the years?

The need to transport things actually appeared already with the creation of humanity itself. At first this function was fulfilled by bags or jackets made of various materials, later they were replaced by bags or pouches.
Handbagsas we know them today, flourished in the 20th century, when women’s rights began to be equalized, rules were loosened, and bags were taken over by fashion designers. And it was then that a whole series of proposals were created, which to a certain extent and in many variations still appear today.

Handbags from the beginning of the 20th century were rather smaller. Women then did not need to carry loads of things in them, as is often the case today, and they made do with small models worn in the hand or hung on the wrist. The main thing was high-quality design, and they started experimenting with interesting shapes or pockets and compartments.

A more practical form of handbags was brought by the innovator Coco Chanel, whose goal was to enable women to travel stylishly but comfortably. And she looked for inspiration in the male world and military bags. The trend did not take off right away, but the need for practical handbags grew after the war, and with it the time for larger shoulder bags.

Femininity returned to handbags in the 1950s. At that time, experiments with materials also began, placing brand logos on the product became a trend, and the trend of celebrities, after which handbag models were named, also began. The 1960s and 1970s were followed by the hippie wave, when handbags were distinctive and original. The eccentricity continued even in the 80s, when the slogan “the bigger, the better” began to dominate. The nineties were dominated by newly born icons, for example the handbag worn by Carrie from Sex and the City.
