Although he was not the leader of the team like some other foreigners, the fans remember him well.

Former midfielder Red stars – Jose Kanjas, he is the first Spanish footballer to wear the Red Star jersey. Now, with some distance in time, he recalls his period in Zvezda:

“I am the first Spaniard to play for Red Star and I am very proud to have played for a club with such a rich history. It was a unique, different experience. I was overjoyed to score three goals and take part in winning the Superliga. Although we didn’t win the Cup, we achieved more than enough.” – said the former Red Star midfielder in an interview with “Mundo Deportivo”, and then added:

“Nothing like Maracana. It is spacious. The club is improving and growing in many ways. The rich history is visible the moment you step into the premises. There are many former players who work at the club.” – said Kanjas, who is still on the minds of Red Star fans today:

“They are amazing, very enthusiastic and supportive. They never stop cheering. They are crazy in a good way. Participating in the Champions League is a special motivation for them, and an inhospitable environment awaits Barcelona. There is no doubt that Barça will win because they have very good players who know no boundaries. However, it will not be an easy task for them. Serbian fans are always electrified, there are torches and drums… They are a loyal group of fans who know how to carry the team on their shoulders throughout the match.” – he concluded.

Kanjas is currently 37 years old, his career is on the wane. He plays for Manchester 62, a team from the first tier of Gibraltarian football.
