High school students who want to save lives with a sponge that detects breast cancer early have won an award at Gen-E 24, Europe’s biggest entrepreneurship festival.
The five students, who are in the 10th grade at Pedro Nunes Secondary School in Lisbon, won the “FedEx Access Award” with their mini-company Bfore, one of the festival’s seven prizes. The award highlighted the project’s innovation, global accessibility, community development and environmental sustainability. In addition, the team’s vision of embracing opportunities beyond Portugal, seeking to positively impact the world, was also highlighted.
“Taking part in Gen-E 24, Europe’s largest entrepreneurship festival held in Italy, was a privilege and an honour for us. This event was a culmination of emotions, from fun to nervousness, but above all it was an extremely enriching experience”, revealed the award-winning students, who also admit that “the days spent at the festival were unforgettable and will be missed”. “We also had the great distinction and immense privilege of receiving the Fedex award, a great recognition of our effort and dedication over these months. This victory meant a lot to us”.
