Estonia’s problem is the ever-increasing shortage of people. Fortunately, there is relief from this, if the politicians want it at all, Äripäev writes in the editorial.
Having received a proposal to form a new government from the president, Kristen Michal has the opportunity to reach a historic decision as prime minister, which Äripäev has encouraged who knows how many times to reduce the composition of the government cabinet, and the necessity of which real life proves again and again. Last Tuesday, when the Statistics Office published birth data for the first half of this year.
It’s bad. Still pretty bad now. The decline in the number of births has been a cause for concern for years, and although one would have thought that the particularly sluggish figures of the last few years had prepared us for the worst, the latest numbers came as a cold shower.
If it continues in the same way, it may happen that the number of children born this year will be less than 10,000. A four-digit number of births.
Experts state with sadness that they have had to revise down already pessimistic forecasts several times over time. And the longer the slump becomes, the fewer people we will have in the future of childbearing age.
What to do?
To lose the government itself
