Medical premiere. A national medical first took place at a private hospital in Oradea. A bone transplant was performed from a donor through the bone tissue bank, and thus the removal of an aggressive tumor in the femur was achieved.
The patient is a 31-year-old woman from Mediaș, who suffered from bone sarcoma, an extremely rare condition.
What is sarcoma?
Sarcoma is a form of malignancy that originates in the body’s connective tissue cells. These tissues include bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, nerves, fat, and blood vessels.

The coordinator of the medical team, Dr. Adyb Adrian Khal, says that the patient had an aggressive benign tumor formation, according to RRA.
“In the case of our patient, we had to deal with a particular situation, given by an aggressive benign tumor formation, which endangered her life in the last years, since childhood, so that a normal life was no longer possible for her.
We had a whole bone taken from a donor that was cryopreserved and kept in the bone bank until it was used, which we sculpted and implanted in place of the diseased femur so that you could rebuild the skeleton so that to become anatomically and bio-mechanically perfect,” said Dr. Adyb Adrian Khal.
