Robert F. Kennedy Jr is appointed by Donald Trump to the Department of Health on November 14, 2024.
UNITED STATES – He persists and signs. Despite numerous criticisms of his appointments of controversial or simply unqualified figures, United States President-elect Donald Trump announced that he had chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr (RFK) to be his Minister of Health.
The latter “ will play a big role in ensuring that everyone is protected from the dangerous chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and food additives that have contributed to the enormous health crisis in this country”wrote the future president on his Truth Social network.
This announcement is not surprising since Donald Trump had already mentioned his wish to see him join his administration next January. But it still raises questions, because Robert Kennedy Jr is notorious for being very skeptical of vaccines. It remains to be seen whether the Senate, involved in the nomination process, will validate the Republican’s choice.
RFK disowned by his own family
A former environmental law lawyer and even a supporter of Hillary Clinton in 2016, RFK is now a conspiracy figure, having shared numerous dubious theories about vaccines against Covid during the pandemic or against 5G. More recently, he called for an end to the addition of fluoride to running water. This measure intended to prevent cavities is nevertheless considered by the medical community as one of the greatest health successes of the 20th century in the United States.
On X, RFK also indicated that he wanted to put an end to “aggressive deletions” of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, responsible for monitoring drugs and foodstuffs). He notably listed raw milk (only authorized in certain states), as well as Ivermectin and hydroxochloroquine not authorized to treat Covid.
Robert Kennedy Jr was himself a presidential candidate. Initially running as a Democrat, he decided to run as an independent before withdrawing to support Donald Trump in August. This decision assured him a place in the administration of the Republican, who will (re)set his bags officially in Washington on January 20.
Despite his sometimes astonishing ideas, RFK benefits from a certain aura because of his last name. He is in fact the nephew of the assassinated former president John F. Kennedy (JFK). He is also the son of Robert Kennedy, JFK’s Minister of Justice and himself assassinated in 1968 while he was a presidential candidate under the Democratic label. However, following his outrageous comments, particularly during the campaign, a large part of his family turned their backs on him.
