Donald Trump may save TikTok from being banned –

The American president, who previously called for a complete ban on the platform, is now preparing to save it.

Donald Trump, the president of the United States of America, asked the Supreme Court the other day to allow him to discuss the US ban on TikTok. In his letter submitted to the court, Trump stated that he wanted to find a “political solution” to the problem and emphasized that “only he has the perfect negotiation skills, electoral mandate and political will” to negotiate solutions aimed at saving the platform.

Recently, the Supreme Court agreed to consider arguments that a bill passed by Congress to ban TikTok because of national security risks violates the US Constitution. If progress is made on this matter, Trump may be given wide latitude to delay the implementation, as well as modify it.

Trump asked the court to suspend a January 19 deadline by which Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, would have to sell its American interests. According to him, the political solution proposed by him “would make it unnecessary for the court to make a decision in the current accelerated procedure in this case of historical importance.”

The president also touched on the fact that TikTok is a unique medium for freedom of expression, where it is also for him has more than 14 million followers. The statement is quite surprising in light of the fact that during his first presidential term, Trump campaigned strictly in favor of banning TikTok.

Despite these efforts, however, political pressure remains strong. A group of senators and congressmen filed a petition, joined by 22 US states and former FCC chairman Ajit Pai. In their petition, they asked the Supreme Court to dismiss TikTok’s appeal and approve the ban as soon as possible.
