It is not yet time for celebration for Donald Trump’s camp, even if the first results lean in favor of the Republican candidate in the first pivotal states where the results are known.

UNITED STATES – A map that turns red. While the American presidential election is now close to delivering its verdict, a victory for Republican Donald Trump is emerging quite clearly in the early hours of the day, this Wednesday, November 6.

Leading in the first three pivotal states where the count gave its verdict, the billionaire and former American president dominates a vote that is slightly less close than announced, especially with his victory now announced in the state of Pennsylvania, considered to be the final arbiter of this election. Here is what we know (and what we don’t yet know) about the vote which will soon determine the winner of the American election.

· Donald Trump is in the lead

For the moment, optimism is in order for the Republican camp, awaiting the results of the states likely to swing the election. Because of the 270 electors needed to access the White House, Donald Trump has already won 248, compared to 214 for Kamala Harris, according to estimates from theAssociated Press.

Another key indicator, the barometer of New York Timesupdated live, which gives Donald Trump a more than 95% chance of winning. A sign of the tension, Kamala Harris will not speak overnight in the United States, but only in the early morning. A first speech from Donald Trump is expected in the coming minutes.

· North Carolina and Georgia for Trump

Pivotal states – like Nevada, Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – North Carolina and Georgia definitely leaned in favor of Donald Trump this Wednesday morning. A scenario similar to that of 2016 and 2020 for North Carolina, which thus brings 16 additional voters into the hands of the 78-year-old Republican.

As for Georgia, where Donald Trump’s lead was described as ” insurmountable » by his camp before the final results, his victory in this State was confirmed this Wednesday morning. That is 16 more electors for the 45th American president.

In 2020, it was Joe Biden who won in this state, making Georgia the first state to officially change sides compared to the results four years ago.

· With Pennsylvania, the game is almost over

If Kamala Harris bet almost everything on the results in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania to come back on par with her rival, the result announced in the latter state almost definitively seals Donald Trump’s victory.

Announced by the American media before Donald Trump’s first speech, his victory in this other pivotal state brings him inexorably closer to a return to the White House, with only five electors missing.

· The Senate switches to red

While the Democrats had a very narrow majority in the Senate before November 5, any seat taken by the Republicans during this election could endanger their chances of retaining the lower house of the US Congress.

A scenario we are heading towards with the victory of the red camp in West Virginia and Ohio. Offering the Republicans two seats previously acquired from the Democrats and a new crucial majority with 51 seats out of 100, according to the New York Times et Associated Press.
