INTERNATIONAL – He was missing. Future President of the United States Donald Trump has received a multitude of congratulations since his presidential victory, but Vladimir Putin has remained silent until now. He finally spoke this Thursday, November 7.
“If anyone wants to get back in touch, I don’t mind. I’m ready »declared Vladimir Putin during a forum, about the Republican. “ I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on his election to the presidency of the United States,” he added.
The day before, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov indicated that the master of the Kremlin had not planned to congratulate Donald Trump. The cause is strained relations since the start of the war in Ukraine. Russia in fact accuses the United States of“feed” the conflict by providing weapons and financial aid to kyiv.
Vladimir Putin therefore congratulated Trump, but did not call him directly. A few hours after the Russian president spoke, Donald Trump said on NBC: “I think we’ll talk.” »
Moscow keeps its distance
Donald Trump assured that he could resolve the conflict in Ukraine and bring peace “in 24 hours”. He did not specify how. In any case since his election, Ukraine’s allies are worried and fear that the billionaire will force kyiv to negotiate with Russia under conditions very favorable to Moscow. For its part, Russia affirmed that it would not “no illusion” on Trump.
This distance that Moscow seems to keep with Donald Trump comes as the American journalist Bob Woodward (at the origin of the revelation of the Watergate scandal) published a book in which he assures that Putin and Trump telephoned each other in secret until seven times since he left the White House in 2021. The teams of both men have completely denied these accusations.
Before the American election, Vladimir Putin, whom Donald Trump praises, had publicly declared that he would prefer to see Joe Biden, then Kamala Harris, in the White House, judging them more “ predictable ».
