(Health Korea News / Chang-yong Lee) Dong-A Pharmaceutical was selected as a recognized organization for the ‘Community Contribution Recognition System’ jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Council for Social Welfare for two consecutive years.
The community contribution recognition system is a system that discovers and recognizes companies and institutions that have continuously engaged in social contribution activities to solve problems in the local community. The review is conducted using detailed indicators in seven areas related to ESG management, including environmental management, socially responsible management, and transparent management.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical was recognized for its contribution to local society through various socially responsible management activities.
Last April, Dong-A Pharmaceutical signed a business agreement with ‘Happy World with Animals (Companion)’ to protect abandoned animals and promote adoption. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the pet nutritional supplement ‘Bepple’ is donated, and ‘Dong-A Petner’ supporters, made up of executives and employees, visit the abandoned animal adoption center every month to volunteer for walking and bathing abandoned animals.
The Horse Chestnut Contest, the oldest women’s essay contest in Korea, has been sponsored for over 40 years since 1983. The competition, which celebrated its 42nd anniversary this year, doubled the total prize money compared to last year and is continuing its efforts to expand the base of domestic women’s literature and discover female writers.
The ‘Love Sharing Bazaar’, a charity event to spread local coexistence and donation culture, is also held every year at Dong-A Pharmaceutical headquarters in Dongdaemun-gu. At the event, which celebrated its 13th anniversary this year, more than 2,000 local residents participated and made a meaningful donation by purchasing Dong-A Pharmaceutical products at low prices. Proceeds are donated to the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council and used for support projects for low-income and underprivileged people.
‘Merry Together’, which supports citizens’ self-sustaining cultural and artistic activities and sponsors the culturally underprivileged, is also considered a representative social contribution activity. In 2020, we signed a sponsorship agreement with the culture and arts volunteer group ‘Mary’ and are working to spread the value of culture and arts in the local community by holding regular concerts. This year’s regular concert was very impressive as the 1,000-seat KBS Hall was sold out.
A Dong-A Pharmaceutical official said, “We will continue to pursue various social contribution activities to solve the problems of the local community together and achieve mutual growth in the local community.” He added, “Dong-A Socio Group’s ‘Socio’ is ‘fulfilling its social responsibility.’ “As it contains meaning, we will strive to spread good influence throughout society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dong-A Socio Holdings, the holding company of Dong-A Pharmaceutical, also won the ‘Carbon Neutral Management Award’ at the 2024 Global Standard Management Awards ceremony hosted by the Korea Management Certification Board on the 21st. (See related article below)
