(Health Korea News / Lee Si-woo) Dong-A Pharmaceutical (CEO Lee Yang-goo), a leader in the hair dye industry, is promoting the export of its vegan hair dye brand ‘Herb’ to the Middle East.
Dong-A ST Pharmaceutical began full-scale overseas sales in the second half of 2023 to explore the Middle Eastern market. As a result, it signed export contracts worth a total of $950,000 with Kuwait and six Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the Middle East in the first half of this year.
In the case of Kuwait, as soon as the export contract for the brand ‘Herb’ was signed in May, we started obtaining local finished product approval and officially launched it in the local market. Since then, as the product has received a lot of attention, the supply of products equivalent to 50% of the first-year contract deposit has already been completed. A Dong Sung Pharmaceutical official said, “We are currently on the verge of running out due to the high turnover rate,” and “We are planning to enter ‘Pharmazone’, a large local pharmacy chain in Kuwait, in October and supply on a large scale.”
The GCC Gulf Cooperation Council plans to obtain approval for finished product items in the second half of the year. Once local sales approval is granted, Dong Sung Pharmaceutical Herb products will be sold in department stores and drugstores throughout the GCC, starting with Saudi Arabia.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s brand ‘Herb’ has a diverse lineup of products, including ‘Herb Color Cream’ and ‘Herb Speedy’ for domestic use, ‘Herb Speedy Color Cream’ for export, beard dye ‘Herb for Men’, and beauty and scalp center products. ‘Herb’ is characterized by minimizing scalp irritation and allowing easy hair dyeing.
In particular, it is receiving a lot of attention in the US and Middle Eastern markets for its vegan prescription, and in Korea, it is planning an advertising campaign in the second half of the year targeting the natural dye market.
Self-hair styling brand ‘EasyN’, which has won the ‘Brand of the Year’ award for five consecutive years, is also building awareness in overseas markets with its unique pudding formulation and dyeing colors that are thoroughly analyzed each season. (See related article below)
Dong-A ST’s Vice President Na Won-gyun said, “The natural hair dye market is expected to grow to about 10 trillion won this year,” and “The need for natural hair dye is extremely high in the global market, and consumers are very interested in it. We will do our best to ensure that our products, which reduce scalp irritation, dominate the global market and solidify our position as a K-natural hair dye brand.”
Meanwhile, Dong-A ST will participate in the Dubai Beauty World Middle East exhibition in October for the second consecutive year and will promote its core skincare brands, including Herb and Easyen.
