Something strange and scary appears when you zoom in on the Statue of Liberty in Apple Maps
The iPhone Maps app has had a pretty amazing evolution in recent years, after a somewhat rushed launch. Furthermore, it has an exquisite design and, in my opinion, superior to Google Maps. One of these design features is that we can see different historical monuments in cities in 3 dimensions, such as the Statue of Liberty in New York.

This is because some of the top layers, such as the hair or crown, are not showing in this “transparent mode”. In its place, an inner layer appears that cannot be fully appreciated when we move away. We understand that it is just an error and that it should have an easy solution, unless it is done on purpose.
Curiously, with other monuments, the same does not happen. Most buildings designed in 3D in Apple Maps do not become transparent as you approach them, you simply walk through them. The Statue of Liberty is the only large statue I’ve found designed in 3D in Apple Maps, so I haven’t been able to replicate this image anywhere else.
In Spain we have been able to enjoy this type of experience on Apple Maps for a long time, with monuments such as the Royal Palace in Madrid, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona or the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. In addition, in iOS 18 Apple Maps have improved with new functions that have been added. those that arrived previously, such as the Guides in Apple Maps.
