Dracula Film Festival announces the launch of film competitions for the 2024 edition and presents the official poster of the festival, created by a well-known Spanish artist

Dracula Film Festival announces the launch of short and feature film competitions on horror, sci-fi, thriller, supernatural, dark comedies, animation, experimental or cult films, for the twelfth edition of the festival, which will take place in Brașov, during October 30 – November 3, 2024.

Dracula Film Festival has 4 competitive sections:

Dracula Trophy – the section dedicated to feature films;
Little Dracula – the section dedicated to international short films;
Vlădutz – the section dedicated to Romanian short films;
Dracula Digital – section dedicated to young amateurs, for short films made with mobile phones.

To be eligible, the films from the festival’s competitions must have been produced between 2022 and 2024 and must not have been broadcast in Romania. At last year’s edition, more than 3000 new productions, from almost 100 countries entered in the competitions for short and feature films, made the mission of the international juries difficult in choosing the winners of the Dracula Film Festival trophies.

For this year’s edition, the expectations are that the selection base will be even richer, and that the films that will be shown in Brașov will really impress the audience, together with the premieres-events outside the competitions, as part of an experiential mix in which the stories that feed the imagination will be found in the program of the largest fantasy film festival in Romania, declined in all forms of expression of Pop culture: visual arts, music, literature, comics, interactions and live animations“, he declares Ioan Bigthe director of the Dracula Film Festival.

The selection of feature films competing for Dracula Trophy is made by Ioan Big, director of the festival, journalist and collaborator with numerous Romanian and foreign publications. The feature films will be judged by an international jury.

In the short film category, the films entered in the competition compete for trophies Little Dracula (international short films) and Vladutz (Romanian short films). Short film section selector is Cristian Mărculescufilm critic.

In addition to screenings of films from the festival’s competitions and national previews outside the competitions, the festival brings to the fore the film scene and the competition Dracula Digitalwhich offers young people from Romania, but also from all over the world, passionate about film and photography, a platform to express their creativity and the chance to get closer to the world of film.

competition Dracula Digital aims to promote cinematographic education, to discover and cultivate new talents in genre cinematography. The application period is open until September 29and young people between the ages of 16 and 29 they can sign up with one short film each, from the genre of horror, sci-fi, supernatural, thriller or fantasy, made with the phone.

After the end of the entry period, the public and the jury will be able to vote on the films entered in the competition. The finalist teams will have the mission of making a short film, filmed with a mobile phone in Brașov, during the Dracula Film Festival. The films will be created based on keywords provided by the jury. The winning team Dracula Digital 2024designated by the jury of specialists, will receive a prize of 500 euro.

For the 2024 edition, the official Dracula Film Festival poster is made by Fernando Dagnino (b. July 24, 1973), well-known Spanish comic book artist, writer and cartoonist, born in Madrid, Spain.

Dagnino’s artistic career began during his final years of college and led him into three main areas: graphic design, illustration and comics. He worked for The Walt Disney Company’s Imagineers and combined work as an illustrator for juvenile literature with the creation of works such as freelancer for various advertising agencies. In 1999, he published his first comic book series, titled Tales of the Black Spain. The first graphic novel, KASANDRA and the Rebellionappeared in 2006, followed over the years by SMART GIRL, L’AGENT and Winter Queen, all translated into several languages.

In 2007, Dagnino left the advertising industry to start working exclusively for DC Comics. Thus, Dagnino became the cartoonist Superman, starting with #692. He also contributed to the creation of the comics Green Lantern Prequel Special: Sinestro #1. As part of the 2011 relaunch of DC Comics titles, The New 52Dagnino was appointed artist at Resurrection Man. Later, he took over the artistic duties at Suicide Squad.

Among the publishers of comics from the independent spacethe Spanish artist collaborated with Dark Horse Comics (Captain Midnight, Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes), Valiant (Killers, Ninja) şi Titan Comics (Blade Runner Origins).

Fernando Dagnino will be among them special guests of Dracula Film Festival 2024during which he will present an exhibition of his works from recent years and hold a workshop by Comics Art.

Dracula Film Festival has an unbroken annual tradition of giving moviegoers direct access to a wide variety of fantasy expressions, from art film and documentary to thriller, sci-fi or horror, and aims, since its first edition in 2013, to to outline a meeting space for Fantasy & Horror enthusiasts.

Dracula Film Festival will take place in Brașov from October 30 to November 3, 2024 and is an event organized by the Fanzin Cultural Association and is financed by Brașov City Hall.
