It is true that beautiful events on a personal level give a person a special kind of energy that can be used in the workplace as well (laughs).
My summer has started well and that’s why I don’t mind spending the hot July in Belgrade preparing the show. The support I have at home has always been important to me and influences me in my daily activities and choices.
This is how, at the beginning of the interview for “TV Novosti”, one of the most beautiful and charismatic Serbian presenters, Dragana Kosjerina, speaks from Perduv. Before the favorite TV personality is not a summer of rest but a period of great intensity, but recently she had a particularly beautiful day in her life, in which she crowned her love with dentist Bojan. Such a day and the honeymoon gave her new energy to present her creative and business efforts.
In anticipation of the 33rd Olympic Games, this Wednesday, in the special show “Gates of Triumph – Countdown”, in tandem with Aleksandar Stojanović, she hosted our former Olympic champions. Already from July 27, in the specialized show “Gates of Triumph”, every evening, from 20.05, on the First Program of RTS, we will see Dragana again, who with this move, as she says, has returned to her roots. The host gained popularity as a sports journalist, and many projects followed, including the quiz “I love Serbia”, “Eurovision Song”, “One Good Day”, in which she shined and delights viewers with her hosting skills, smile, beauty, self-confidence, but also, from show to show, styling.
* What memories did the opening of door number 500, behind which the RTS sports office is hidden, bring up for you?
– When I open the door of the Sports editorial office, I feel as if I have walked into a time machine. In that office, I prepared the first shows exactly ten years ago, when I started working at Radio and Television of Serbia. It was as if I opened the door and “walked” into the summer of 2014. Memories of experiences that shaped me come back easily. Some of my youthful enthusiasm comes back and I remember why I love my job.
* While the athletes prepare hard for their greatest efforts, the fans are already planning how to celebrate the expected medals, and how do you “sharpen” yourself before the biggest sports show?
– I am very much looking forward to the Olympic Games in Paris, and this is already the third Summer Games that I will work with my colleagues from the Sports editorial office. We are already integrated, everyone has valuable experience and a desire to improve the program. I’ve always liked doing special shows that follow sports events. Gathering the entire editorial team around such large projects carries a special kind of energy. We all function as a well-coordinated team and encourage each other. In those days, the “outside world” seemed to disappear. All attention is focused on what is happening on the pitches and on the program we are preparing. Preparations are well under way, for us the Games seem to have already started.
* How will the show “Gates of Triumph” be specific, with whom will you conduct it and how is it designed?
– Spectators will be able to follow the show “Gates of Triumph” every day, in which we will analyze the happenings on the field and, I hope, celebrate together the results of our athletes whom we cheer on. The team of RTS journalists will also report live from the scene, and every evening we will have broadcasts from Paris in which we will talk about everything that follows the Games, both on and around the arenas and fields. In the studio, my colleague Nenad Đurović and I will host former champions, national team players and expert consultants, who will comment on the results. Colleague Marina Šistov Milićević will prepare a special segment of the show every day – Interesting things that are not necessarily related to sports topics, because the Olympic Games are a kind of social phenomenon that should be seen and analyzed in a wider context. The shows will be meaningful and entertaining.
* What are your personal “gates of triumph”?
– I believe that each of us has our own value system based on which he determines what he considers success or failure in life. For me, the most important thing is to be joyful and calm. To nurture relationships with the people I love the most. To have time for activities that feed my soul. That I welcome the responsibilities of work with pleasure, that I don’t feel exhausted and empty. Because, in that case, even the results of my work would not make me happy. I believe that there is no one goal, the achievement of which makes us feel like a successful person. Ideas and ambitions are born anew, and every time and age brings some new challenges and needs. Finding and achieving that fine balance is the most difficult task and the greatest success.
* We also watched you in the show “Jedan dobar dan”. What is your good day filled with?
– Ever since I was a child, I have had my own little agenda, a list of daily obligations. It’s true, I write everything down because I’m always forgetful (laughs), but also because I like to allocate my attention and energy to specific tasks. For me, the one who has everything on that list is good – both private and business plans, time for work and fun. I have the impression that I am one of those people who have to “plan” vacations and breaks.
* What little rituals and pleasures in life do you never deviate from?
– I like the first coffee in the morning to drink with some relaxing music and thus start the day in a good rhythm. Only then do I start answering calls and messages, which require concentration. I try to set aside time for physical activity, because both my body and mind need training. I love to read and cultivate that habit. A book is always a better choice before going to sleep than tapping on a mobile phone, to which we have all grown too attached, unnecessarily.
* What and who would you like to have more time for?
– Work in the media is such that a person necessarily carries it with him everywhere. It is simply a way of life. You can never switch off completely. However, I try to take a break, to choose the contents I follow and to focus my attention on what brings me peace. A dynamic business environment and availability at any time via one click on a mobile phone have become an integral part of almost every profession. This is precisely why I make sure that I don’t miss out on the time I need to spend with my loved ones – family and friends. It restores my peace. I like, occasionally, to be alone after big business projects, because I need it to make some kind of analysis and learn lessons.
* After this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, you thanked the actor Slaven Došl for “making a demanding job easier for everyone with his energy, appearance, and above all his skill”. Now, when everything is over, what do you remember about those evenings in “metallic” color?
– Slaven truly wove his special charm, professionalism and incredible ease of work into that project. He is very talented for any kind of improvisation on stage, it is his natural environment. On the other hand, in just a few days he mastered all the most important elements of the leading job and shone in a very complex format. Working with him was a real pleasure, and “Eurovision Song” will always remain in our memory for the intense energy that accompanies that music competition. We are impatiently waiting and preparing for the next season.
* A new season of the quiz “I love Serbia” awaits us from autumn. Over the years, did you prefer the “blue” or “red” captain – Dr. Nela Karajlić or Nenad Okanović?
– Nele would now easily conclude and tell the readers that I prefer Oki and that I root for him more (laughs). That is of course not true and I love and support them equally. It is a real pleasure, and I must say an honor, that I have been sharing the stage with them for years. Nele Karajlić and Nenad Okanović are masters of their craft, intellectuals, artists, treasures of knowledge… They know how to present all of this through fun and jokes, without burden. I learned a lot from them. We have prepared a new season, in our recognizable manner, which viewers can watch from autumn on RTS 1 in the same time slot.
* Viewers say that with you every TV season is positive, elegant, fatal, subtle, energetic, passionate, extravagant and unforgettable. Are you aware that you leave such an impression on the audience?
– I am happy if the impression is like that! I would say that this is the essence of my work, to teach people something through laughter and relaxation, to remind them of what they have forgotten, to inspire them… Since the time of the show is on Sunday evenings, it is the ideal content that viewers can enjoy as a family they can follow before the new working week for which everyone needs elan. When someone tells me how easy the job seems to be for me, that’s a sign that I’m doing my job exactly as it should be. Behind that “lightness” is hidden hard work and concentration, which in demanding formats must not give way even for a moment.
* Did you acquire these skills over time or do you think they are your gift?
– I believe that talent is important in my job and that it makes a difference, but it is not enough. Skills must be developed and nurtured, because the job of a presenter changes through formats and over the years. I still approach work today as if I just walked into the television yesterday. I am thorough, like a beginner who needs to learn the trade. Every detail is important to me. I never assume that I already know something and that I have mastered everything that is necessary to get the job done at the appropriate level.
