Drove the car to an acquaintance, “turned it on the roof” and called and went home

On Friday evening, a man parked his car in Selnica ob Drava, but did not lock it and left the ignition keys in it, possibly forgetting it. Just before 8 p.m., a 53-year-old man who knew the owner of the car took advantage of the opportunity. He got into an Opel Astra and drove off, or as the police officers at the Maribor Police Department later wrote, “he took the vehicle without the owner’s knowledge and illegally used it for driving”.

His driving did not go well, but he was so fair that he called the owner and told him that he had flipped the car onto its roof. He did not say where it happened, and ended the conversation.

Around half past one in the morning, in the settlement of Janževa gora, a missing star was found under the road in the forest, which, according to the police, was “actually on the roof”. The 53-year-old was quickly tracked down. He was at home and more than obviously drunk. A breathalyzer test showed 1.16 milligrams of alcohol per liter of breath. It is not necessary for him to get drunk like that before the ride.

The police officers will submit an indictment to the district court in Maribor for causing the traffic accident and for driving under the influence of alcohol, and they will file a criminal complaint for the theft of the car.
