In the future, teachers’ salaries could be linked to educational outcomes. Salary increases would be linked to merit and would be automatically triggered in case of improvement of Slovak pupils in international tests.
In an interview for TASR, Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker (Voice-SD) stated this, saying that they will discuss it further.
In the case of primary schools, teachers’ salaries would be legally linked to automatic growth, which would be triggered if the results of Slovak pupils in international tests improved. If results were to stagnate or deteriorate, wage growth would slow.
“This is one of the things we want to address because we care about children. Slovakia, our economy and the future of all of us who live here depend on future generations. But it will not work without teachers and professional staff. We just have to create good motivational means for that,” added the minister.
He assumes that if Slovakia is to have better results in education, it is also necessary to improve the evaluation and remuneration of teachers. According to its head, the Ministry of Education will continue to devote itself to the education of teachers, their support and their preparation for the future profession.
