In his statement on his social media account, Yerlilaya stated that for the safety of pedestrians, it is of great importance for drivers to reduce their speed at school/pedestrian crossings and intersections without illuminated traffic signs and give pedestrians the first right of way.
Yerlikaya stated that 2 million 823 thousand 859 vehicles were inspected by the Police and Gendarmerie traffic teams between 26 September and 3 October and shared the following information:
“An action was taken against 259 drivers who installed devices with light or sound warning signs (strobes) on vehicles that are not permitted by the legislation. 139 thousand 58 speeding violations, 28 thousand 470 who did not have periodic inspections, 34 thousand 267 who did not use seat belts, 2 thousand who drove without a driver’s license.” “A total of 535 thousand 705 vehicles and drivers were processed, including 836 vehicles and 10 thousand 925 without compulsory liability insurance.”
Yerlikaya noted that inspections for both drivers and pedestrians will continue at schools, pedestrian crossings and intersections regarding “Pedestrian Priority in Traffic” in order to minimize pedestrian accidents and raise social awareness against pedestrians.
