“Dusit Poll” does not trust “Paethongtarn’s government” to solve flooding problems, recommends accelerating recovery

Dusit Poll does not trust Paethongtarn’s government to solve flooding problems, recommends accelerating assistance for the people, issuing appropriate recovery measures, and should plan for the long term.

“Suan Dusit Poll”, Suan Dusit University, surveyed public opinion nationwide on the subject of “Thai people and the flood situation” from a sample group of 1,207 people, conducted between 18-20 September 2018. It was found that 68.77 percent of the sample group had experienced flooding. As for the main cause of flooding, 42.49 percent of the sample stated human actions, while 70.05 percent closely followed news and warnings during floods to prepare for them.

And when asked about confidence in the government’s flood prevention and solution, 69.76 percent of the sample said they did not have confidence and were dissatisfied with the government’s management of the flood problem, up to 77.80 percent.

In this regard, what she would like to tell the government of Paethongtarn Shinawatra, 64.07 percent want urgent and timely assistance, 54.75 percent should manage water efficiently, plan long-term prevention, and 51.36 percent want appropriate measures to restore and provide relief after the water recedes.

However, Ms. Pornpan Buathong, President of Suan Dusit Poll, stated that the survey results reflect that most of the sample group had experienced flooding problems. Although they were able to prepare for the problems by themselves, they still did not trust the government’s ability to solve the problems and were dissatisfied with the current management of the problems. They expected them to speed up assistance and manage the water more effectively, have a long-term prevention plan, and provide assistance and recovery measures that show more empathy for the people.
