Dynamo Dresden’s fight against Darmstadt not rewarded

After a nervous thriller, Darmstadt 98 is in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup.

The Bundesliga relegated team, which has significantly stabilized again under new coach Florian Kohfeldt, defeated third division team Dynamo Dresden in the second round, despite leading three times, only after extra time thanks to Isac Lidberg’s goal (98th) 3-2 (2 :2, 0:0).

The second division team from Hesse gained slight advantages until the break – and were unlucky when an attempt from Fraser Hornby hit the crossbar almost as the half-time whistle blew.

After the restart, the 2.01 m tall Lilien defender Aleksandar Vukotic exploited his natural advantages from a corner and gave Darmstadt a deserved lead with a header (56th).

Dresden, which last reached the round of the best 16 in the 2014/15 season, was then primarily challenged in defense – and still managed to score a celebrated equalizer through Jakob Lemmer (85th). But Darmstadt rewarded themselves again with Kempe’s converted penalty kick (90+2).

However, it wasn’t the winning goal because Dynamo saved themselves into extra time thanks to Lemmer’s brilliant long-range shot (90th + 11th).
