Change The Ref Launches Anti-Gun Awareness Campaign in the United States
Gun violence is the leading cause of death among children in the United States, and the death rate for children and adolescents in the United States is 28.6% higher than in comparable countries (source: KFF.org). While there are more anti-gun campaigns and movements in the United States today, the country remains an unsafe place for children. Joaquin Oliver, for example, was murdered in the Parkland school shooting on Valentine’s Day 2018. Six years later, his parents, Manuel and Patricia Oliver, co-founders of the anti-gun violence organization Change the Ref, continue to shine a spotlight on the tragedy—this time with an international awareness campaign called “Save us from the USA“. The campaign, which launched in the UK, Madrid, Paris and Lisbon and is being rolled out around the world, shames US lawmakers by making a fake call for people in other countries to adopt American children and save them from gun violence. Versions of the ads will run internationally on digital and static billboards, kiosks and fly-bys in European markets, as well as in Canada, including Toronto and Vancouver. The campaign will also reach Americans through paid media on social and digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
