The multi-purpose ship “Belos” of the Swedish Armed Forces lifted the anchor.
It has been handed over to the Finnish authorities, and on Tuesday the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation will begin an investigation into the anchor.
Meanwhile, the Finnish transport and communication agency “Traficom” continues the inspection of the ship “Eagle S”.
Traficom said in a statement that inspections were carried out last weekend, and a final visit to the vessel is still planned.
Inspectors evaluate the technical condition of the ship, compliance with environmental protection requirements, documentation and working conditions of the crew.
In a similar inspection in Ghana in 2023, 24 serious non-conformities were discovered on the ship “Eagle S”, including significant problems related to technical maintenance, equipment, fire alarm system and emergency power supply.
The Cook Islands-flagged Eagle S has been reported to be one of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet vessels used in efforts to circumvent sanctions. It is suspected of damaging the underwater power cable “EstLink 2” connecting Finland and Estonia and four communication cables on Christmas Day.
The Eagle S was detained and taken to the port of Kilpilahti, 40 kilometers east of Helsinki, where investigators are examining the vessel and questioning about 20 crew members.
The eight sailors suspected of involvement in this sabotage are banned from leaving Finland.
