Ecklo, the young company active in business logistics, is launching the first responsible alternative to plastic film for packaging products on pallets.
Two years after starting research and development of its solution, the start-up and player in business logistics, Ecklois deploying for the first time an alternative to plastic film for thepackaging of goods transported on palletThe solution is reusable and made from recycled and recyclable materials, and it aims to significantly reduce theenvironmental impact of business logistics, while meeting their economic, operational and regulatory requirements.
In order to protect, stabilize, secure and identify goods during transport and storage, plastic film is now at the heart of the logistics processes of the vast majority of companies. But its impact on the environment is significant, since each year, in France, 310,000 tonnes of plastic film are used and thrown away, generating 1.5 million tonnes of CO2. And in the face of this problem, the legislative framework is becoming increasingly strict, with the regulation relating to packaging and packaging waste (PPWR).
A new circular packaging
Corentin Dejean, Ecklo CEO, joined forces in November 2022 with Robin Bruneauthe CMO, and Florian Dejeanthe CTO, to found their own company. The first specifies: “It is estimated that 30 to 40% of pallets are packaged to be transported on internal flows. Whether between two sites of the same company, but also within the same site. There are therefore nearly 100,000 tons of plastic film that always remain within the perimeter of companies!“
To respond to these numerous environmental challenges, the young company is proposing a reusable cover for the packaging and maintenance of goods on pallets, made from recycled and recyclable materials. When this double patented cover reaches one hundred usesit allows to reduce 93 % THE CO emissions2 and of 95 % the amount of plastic waste compared to traditional plastic films. Adaptable to different pallet heights and very compact when folded, the product offers optimal anchoring of the goods on the pallet. This new packaging circular is competitive, with a cost price of between 1 and 2 euros per use, corresponding to the market standard.
Note that the company is the winner of the Demeter Clubthe leading French association for responsible logistics players, since January 2024. It is in this context that it was asked by members of the club to launch tests of its packaging. By the end of the year, Ecklo plans to deploy few hundreds of reusable covers, within several large groups.
