Have you ever accidentally sent a text message with errors, awkward mistakes, or the wrong recipient? Google is working on a solution that will help you avoid this, at least to some extent. The Google Messages app is testing the ability to edit sent messages.
App Google Newswhich is the default platform for managing SMS and RCS messages on Android devices, may soon gain a feature that will certainly interest users. The option to edit already sent messages is a novelty that we could only dream of in the context of this tool.
The new feature of editing text messages after sending will be introduced in the beta version of the Google Messages app. According to information published by “Android Police”, the feature has been in the works since February, but has only recently been noticed. Currently, the option is being used by a limited number of beta testers, and exact plans for its further rollout are not yet set.
As reported by Android Police, citing Twitter user Jhowkira2000, the new option is being tested on select devices using AssembleDebug. According to the user, he discovered the feature a few months ago, which indicates that Google has been working on it for a long time.
How will SMS editing work?
It should be possible to edit sent messages by 15 minutes after they were sent. The editing process is intuitive – just long-press the sent message and press the pencil symbol to edit the content. After making changes, you must accept them.
There are currently no details about when the new feature will be available to a wider group of users. However, considering that the option is already in beta, it should soon be available to more users. It is worth adding that messages can be edited multiple times, and a note will appear below them that the content has changed. Additionally, the recipient will be able to read the original version of the message before editing.
