Election day in Croatia: They will choose between eight candidates

Today, around 3.76 million voters in Croatia will decide who will be the president of the country for the next five years. There are eight candidates, and victory smiles on the current president, Zoran Milanović. Polls show that the new president will not be elected in the first round, but will be known only on January 12.

The poll predicts the most chances to qualify for the second round Milanovićwho is running with the support of the largest opposition party SDP. In it, he will most likely face an independent candidate Dragan Primorcwhich is supported by the ruling HDZ.

In addition to Primorc and Milanović, the candidates are also an independent candidate Marija Selak Raspudicwho this year broke up with the conservative party Most, a prominent member of the left-green party Zmoremo! According to the results of the public opinion poll conducted by the agency Promocija Plus for Croatian television RTL between December 19 and 23, Milanović would have won 39.3 percent of the vote. Primorac would win 24.3 percent of them.

Slightly more than 6,500 polling stations in Croatia will be opened at 7 am. It will also be possible to vote at 105 polling stations in 38 other countries, of which the largest number are in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatian citizens in Slovenia can participate in elections at the Croatian embassy in Ljubljana. The polling stations will be closed at 7:00 p.m., when the television stations will announce the results of the parallel elections.
