More than 850,000 voters, i.e. 30%, have already exercised their right to vote in the October 20 election. The most active are women (53.59%) who went out to vote compared to 46.41% of men.

At noon, the attendance at the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova exceeded 20%, and at the referendum – 16%

At 12:00 p.m., over 440,000 people, i.e. 16.14%, voted in the constitutional referendum, the Central Electoral Commission announced.

The attendance is lower compared to the presidential elections, where over 20% of the voters voted at 12:00.

In order for the ballot, as well as the referendum, to be validated, a third of the total number of voters registered in the electoral lists must be present at the ballot boxes.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) expects more than 2.7 million people registered in the electoral rolls to vote today. Which would mean that approximately 940,000 voters need to participate for the referendum on October 20, 2024 to be considered valid, and of these nearly one million people, 50% + 1, i.e. more than half, need to vote “YES” to pass the referendum.

In 2010, the Constitutional Court determined that the participation of one-third of citizens registered on electoral rolls is necessary to validate a referendum, and of this third, more than half must vote “YES” for the referendum to go ahead.

The CEC also said that, by 1:00 p.m., the police had documented 20 electoral incidents, namely 7 cases of photographing ballot papers, 6 – electoral agitation, 3 – corruption of voters, 2 – organized transport of voters and one case destruction of the ballot.

By 1:00 p.m., more than 700,000 Moldovan citizens went to the polls, i.e. more than 25%.

Moldovans between the ages of 56 and 65 vote most actively. At the opposite pole are citizens over 76 years old and those up to 25 years old.

In Chisinau, the turnout is slightly below the national average (approximately 24%), with over 150,000 citizens voting.

Almost 70,000 citizens voted abroad, and more than 6,700 voted at the polling stations dedicated to Moldovans living on the left side of the Dniester.

Russia and France have the busiest polling stations in the diaspora

The most crowded polling stations abroad are in France, Russia, Romania, Greece, Italy and Turkey, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

At 12:00, over 100 people register at three sections, respectively at the two sections at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow and at the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges section in France.

Queues of 50 and 100 people respectively are registered in Athens, Modena, the consular section in Bucharest and section no. 3, Galați, Sibiu, Timisoara and Istanbul.
