Acura has announced the return of the RSX, but that new model arrives in SUV form and will be Acura’s first model built on an all-new dedicated EV platform.
Unlike the Acura ZDX, which borrows its underpinnings from General Motors, the new RSX will be based on Honda’s newly developed EV architecture, a significant step forward for the automaker’s electrification plans.
The EV platform developed by Honda has already been shown at CES 2025, on which the prototypes of the Honda 0 Series are based, which will receive production versions next year. Honda’s goal with its new platform will be to create lighter vehicles, as well as reduce the overall height that most EVs require to mount the batteries in the floor.
The new Acura RSX will also be the first EV produced at Honda’s new EV Hub in Ohio.
When asked by CarScoops why the company decided to revive the RSX name for an electric SUV rather than a sports car, a spokesperson said: “We believe RSX is the right name for our new all-electric SUV. This is not a ‘revival’ of the previous RSX coupe.”
The RSX is said to be inspired by the Performance EV concept. Based on one teaser image, the new model appears to retain some elements of the concept, but goes for a more conventional approach overall.
Acura has not confirmed an exact release date, but the new RSX is expected to hit showrooms in early 2026.
