The new MINI John Cooper Works will be officially unveiled this autumn, and for the first time it will be available with a choice of petrol and fully electric powertrains.
For now, the electric MINI John Cooper Works E is in front of us, thanks to photos from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The images reveal an upgraded aero body kit that includes a front spoiler, a set of side skirts, a rear bumper with a diffuser and a new roof spoiler. There’s also the JCW logo and a set of 18-inch wheels.
Apart from that, the car will also be offered with optional hood strips, contrasting mirror caps, panoramic glass roof and Multione roof.
The JCW E is said to have an “advanced electric drive”, which means 190 kW/258 hp and lithium-ion batteries.
The news also states that this 1670 kg car has a top speed of 200 km/h.
The car is said to be “developed to push the limits of speed and agility.”
MINI product line boss Stefan Floek previously said that the JCW E is designed to offer similar performance to its SUS counterpart.
Floek says the JCW E will remain a front-wheel-drive, single-engine car, though he said the Cooper EV platform can accommodate dual-engine drivetrains.
Floek added that MINI worked to develop the “karting feel” that defines the British brand. “You also have a good balance of weight in the front and rear of the car,” Floek states. “So the genes – low center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution – are better for driving dynamics.”
