Electric vans will quickly take over the role of diesels in cities

In two years, the offer of electric vans will be greater than the offer of diesel-powered competitors. In addition, electric vans will be cheaper to buy than diesel cars as early as 2027.

This paves the way for a major transition, with the industry expecting 3.9 million electric vans to be sold in the EU and UK over the next five years. That is enough vans to take over delivery functions in all 27 capital cities of the European Union and London, he says HAK magazine.

As a result, zero-emission zones could be introduced and only electric vans allowed in city centres, according to analysis by environmental lobby group Transport & Environment and the Clean Cities Campaign. Electric vans will be a key player in reducing emissions in big cities. There are already 35 zero-emission zones planned across Europe, 19 of which will enter into force in 2025, and Stockholm has already introduced such a zone.

– With a wide choice and the assumption that electric vans will be cheaper than diesel cars as early as 2027, companies have everything they need to be able to drive in emission-free zones in Europe. This is great news for citizens – says Barbara Stoll from T&E’s campaign for clean cities.
