Elias Charalambous supports that domestic championship matches and Europa League are equally important and that his players must adapt to the fast pace of this period.

“I think there are many other teams, plus CFR, who will fight for the title. It’s too early. There are still many matches. I’m sure many teams will fight for the title this year. Last match we needed the three points, to start winning again in the championship. The championship is a marathon, not a sprint. Europe is a sprint. What’s more, we need points. The title is our goal this year as well. We will give everything for the three points.

Great teams don’t depend on one or two players. It is a team that fights every year for the championship. They certainly have other players to replace those who left. That means nothing. They still have a good team, but the most important thing is how we play.

We have to adapt and find a way to manage things, to play every 3-4 days. From my point of view, it’s something I like a lot. And the players too, to play football. We have to manage things properly.

The priority is to win with CFR Cluj. The priority is always the next match. We don’t think too far, we have no reasons. The most important is the match against CFR Cluj and after that we will take it step by step. This is how I see things and this is the reality”, declared Elias Charalambous, during the press conference preceding the CFR Cluj – FCSB match.

“I think Sava was the best goalkeeper in Romania. With the three players who scored about 45 goals together we would have been stronger, but at the same time, I think we have a competitive team, very good, with two players in the position. I hope no one leaves.

If the current players will remain, I am satisfied, even if we would have been much stronger with the three. I’m sure we can fight. We all have to think that the goal is the play-offs, where there will be a big fight. After that we can have other claims, as we have always had. We should not think too far ahead. We have to take it step by step.

We have a very good batch. If the players stay healthy, I think we will be able to cope on two fronts, in the championship and in the Romanian Cup. I’ll tell you how I see the situation – let’s think about the play-off! Even if people laugh and say I don’t know what, that’s the reality. We have to fight in the play-offs because it’s a big fight there, I see at least 10 teams.

Once you get into the play-offs you have to be ambitious. Until then, keep your heads down and let’s work. Then we will think about the title, but now I have told you what is important and I have confidence in the team I have. If I didn’t have it, maybe I wouldn’t be in front of you now,” he said Dan Petrescu, the coach of CFR Cluj.
