Elli Charger 2: Wallbox from Volkswagen comes onto the market

Charge electric cars

With the Elli Charger 2, Volkswagen and its subsidiary Volkswagen Group Charging are bringing a new, smart wallbox onto the market.

Volkswagen is bringing a smart wallbox onto the market with its subsidiary Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH. The Elli Charger 2 uses the home photovoltaic system (solar surplus charging) and can charge at an optimized market price. This means that the electric vehicle always charges when electricity is cheap.

In addition, customers can now purchase a photovoltaic system from Otovo with the Wallbox. Elli’s partnership with the Norwegian PV dealer Otovo will initially be rolled out as a pilot project in Germany at selected Volkswagen dealers (including in Hamburg, Ulm, Augsburg) and will be established throughout Europe in the long term.

But what exactly can the Elli Charger 2 do?

  • Smart charging: Users should save up to 40% of charging costs through the combination of solar excess charging and price-optimized charging.
  • PV surplus charging: The Charger 2 makes it possible to use excess energy from photovoltaic systems directly to charge the electric vehicle.
  • Market price optimized charging: Using dynamic electricity tariffs, the wallbox can automatically select the cheapest times for charging.
  • Versatile charging: The Elli Charger 2 is available in four versions and is suitable for any electric vehicle with a Type 2 charging port. Thanks to the new metering function – which will soon be possible in compliance with calibration law – the new Elli Charger 2 can be used not only in private, but also in semi-public and public areas.
  • Future-proof: With the option of receiving software updates via the cloud, the wallbox always remains up to date – control via app included.

The Elli Charger 2 charges – depending on the model – with a maximum of 22 kW. The power can be individually adjusted in configuration mode, for example to 11 kW, to meet the requirements of a house connection. The cost of the Elli Charger 2 starts at 759 euros. There is a version with a maximum of 11 kW charging power and a 4.5 meter long cable. The price for the Elli Charger Pro 2 is already 1,158 euros. For this you get a maximum of 22 kW charging power and a 7.5 meter long cable.
