Elon Musk doesn’t want to make a Tesla smartphone, but he might do it anyway

The CEO of Tesla joined the Joe Rogan Experience to talk about the elections in the United States. Musk also talked about a possible Tesla smartphone there.

There have been rumors for some time about a Tesla smartphone as an alternative to Android or iOS. During the podcast say Musk makes it clear that Tesla is not working on it, but that it is a possibility.

Musk says that Tesla’s operating system is based on Linux, but that a lot of software has been created to make it its own. “Tesla is therefore probably in a better position to make a smartphone that isn’t Android or iPhone than any other company.”

Musk says he doesn’t want to make a device unless he really has to. What should be done first? “If Apple and Google/Android start doing really bad things like censoring apps. If they start acting as gatekeepers in a bad way, then we’ll make a smartphone.”
