According to Trump’s statements, the new department will aim to cut red tape and restructure federal agencies, taking an unprecedented entrepreneurial approach to government.
It will work with the Office of Management and Budget to implement far-reaching structural reforms without being considered a government agency. Musk and Ramaswamy will thus be able to continue working in the private sector without the need for Senate approval.
Trump has set a deadline of July 4, 2026 for completing the reforms, wanting to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
Musk said the new department would have a major impact on the government system, targeting wasteful spending. Ramaswamy, otherwise known for his stand against the federal bureaucracy, supported the idea of significant staff cuts.
However, the federal workers union reacted negatively, warning that the implementation of these measures would lead to massive cuts in several government departments.
Trump nominates Fox News commentator Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense
Donald Trump is nominating Fox News commentator Pete Hegseth for the post of Secretary of Defense as part of a plan to reorganize the military leadership, writes Reuters.
Hegseth, known for his critical stances on “woke” policies in the military, has publicly advocated for the dismissal of military leaders he sees as followers of progressivism.

If confirmed by the Senate, Hegseth could have a strained relationship with General CQ Brown, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, whom he has accused of pushing a “radical” agenda.
Basically, Hegseth’s nomination reflects Trump’s vision to “cleanse” the military leadership of what he perceives as “anti-American” influences and reduce US involvement in alliances. NATO is no exception.
Trump characterized Hegseth as a “true advocate of America First,” saying he would restore “greatness” to the U.S. military. Hegseth, 44, has criticized NATO for its weaknesses and accused European allies of underinvesting in defence. In his view, US commitments should be reassessed if allies are not contributing fairly.
