INTERNATIONAL – Tributes to Joe Biden have been pouring in since the announcement that he was withdrawing from the presidential election. On Monday, July 22, Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the « courage » and the ” sense of duty “ from his American counterpart and called for the continuation of “the spirit of partnership between the two sides of the Atlantic” beyond the November 5 election.

“I appreciate the courage, the spirit of responsibility and the sense of duty that led you to this decision.”writes the French head of state in a letter addressed to Joe Biden, some extracts of which were made public by the Élysée.

“As we have just celebrated together the 80th anniversary of the Landing, I hope that this spirit of partnership between the two sides of the Atlantic will continue to drive the historic relations between our two countries.”he added.

Joe Biden spent several days in France in early June on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. A stay during which the American president was honored with a state visit to Paris on June 8, the highest level of French protocol.

Kamala Harris praises Joe Biden’s record

“France and the United States are together, today and forever”Joe Biden had assured in particular in the evening during the toast before the state dinner served as the highlight of the day.

Kamala Harris is now in pole position for the Democratic nomination, with a wave of rallies within her party. At 59, the first female vice president in the history of the United States praised Joe Biden’s record, “unparalleled in modern history”.

Kamala Harris did not, however, mention the November 5 election deadline in this first speech since Sunday, which was highly symbolic because it was made at the White House while the president is convalescing outside Washington.

She had declared herself ready the day before “win the nomination” at the Democratic convention to be held in mid-August in Chicago, having obtained the support of the president, worn out by his 81 years.

A strong supporter, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives and major figure in the Democratic Party Nancy Pelosi has announced her support for Kamala Harris.
